Market report psyllium April 2015



Last month we reported about heavy rainfalls, which partially had caused damages in the growing areas. As a result the prices had increased short term.

Meanwhile, the situation has become more relaxed because, despite the damage, the expected crop will be significantly higher than in the previous year.

According to current estimates, the harvest should be about 50% higher than last year. Therefore, the prices are already on a declining trend. Starting late April until mid-May, the total amount will reach the market from all growing regions. Until then we expect further detailed information on crop size and most likely price decreases.

On the other hand, we are currently noticing a rapidly growing demand for psyllium. Psyllium is increasingly being used in bakery products, nutritional supplements, feed products, pharmaceutical products and for technical applications.

For long-term coverage, we recommend to wait. Short-term needs should be covered from our inventory.
